One of the trends that you will notice when it comes to almost everything is the return of retro. And this does not exclude the fashion and music industries. Of course, the old music takes on a more contemporary form. However, what the artists sing would be classics that were released a long time before you were born. Let's take for example the song, Gloomy Sunday which was then called the Suicide Song for its very dark and gloomy feel. The song was composed by a Hungarian composer, Reszo Seress who himself committed suicide shortly after the composition of the song. It was then rumored to have inspired several suicides of people who listened to the song. And a film was made in adaptation to the myth. Much speculation was aroused by the song. And it was even remade by several artists like Billie holiday, Ray Charles, Sinead O'Connor, Sarah McLachlan and Bjork. This certainly is some classic music that is still being revived until today.
Another example that you can take from old music is the Charlie Chaplin Song also known as Smile. It was remade by the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, as it was his favorite song. It has then since again been remade by the King’s brother, Jermaine Jackson, and has gained a newfound popularity apart from the time when Charlie Chaplin wrote the music for the movie, Modern Times.
There are a lot of contemporary artists reviving music that we can consider as classics. And true enough these classics acquire a better appeal as they age.
